Every student who sits in front of us potentially brings problems that can have serious consequences on the ability to learn the curricular material. Those problems can cover a broad spectrum of degrees of importance, from the amazingly trivial to the catastrophic. - boy friend or girl friend arguments

- dealing with divorce

- death of a family member
It's not just the students who might be dealing with other critical problems. Teachers are not immune to those supplemental, but very real, things that need to be confronted. - how do you deal with an incompetent boss?
