Let There Be Light Scripture Illuminates Science
Early in the bible, the phrase Let There Be Light is spoken by a creating God. That light was physical, but also analogous to the intellectual knowledge of humans as we started the search for individual meaning in an infinite universe. Too often we think of the the bible and science as being diametrically opposed to one another. On the surface that may be true, but as we explore both arenas more thoroughly, we can see that from the big picture of human exploration, there is a logical entwining of the two. There is a true battle happening, though, but it's between the broader concepts of humanism and the existance of God. That's the real battle, and one we will address in other articles on this site. For now, however, let's look more closely at the interaction between science and scripture. Keeping the concept that this is a practical, nuts and bolts site, we will attack this issue in the following ways. - An actual introduction and outline of portions of a physical science class taught in at the university level.
- Expanded notes of a lecture given at a faith and science seminar for Christian science teachers.
- Strategies on how to have a genuine voice in the public square.
One of the co-founders of this site teaches a course in physical science for non-science majors in a major Christia university. The basic theme of the course has three major components. - An exploration of traditional science theory and fact in a given topic
- Illustration of how that theory and fact has been developed into some form of modern technology
- Discussion and analysis of how that technology has affected society from an ethical, moral and scriptural point of view.
As part of that course, the professor is creating a document that is supplemental to the text and the course lectures. You may download the introductory portion of that document as a pdf. This page will be updated frequently throughout the semester as the document continues to grow. We invite you to return frequently to continue downloading the parts of the document, or you may add this page to your RSS feed by clicking the appropriate box in the left column of the page.
