If Extra Income is Necessary It's No Longer Extra
In order to provide extra income, we are going to propose a Subsidized Business Plan that holds the potential to solve the deplorable salaries paid in many Christian schools.
The problem of inadequate salaries in Christian schools has serious ramifications. - excellent teachers leave as soon as they get public school certification
- many potential teachers can't afford the pay cut from their present jobs to enter the world of christian education
- Overall quality of the faculty decreases since cheap is not always better
IMPORTANT POINT NUMBER ONE Frankly, we've had it with the phrase often used by boards of education for Christian schools. "You're in this as a mission..." IMPORTANT POINT NUMBER TWO There is a way out of this terrible Dollar Dilemma Many of us in Christian education have attempted to supplement our Christian school salaries in various ways. - coaching multiple sports
- working part-time jobs after school and weekends
- summer painting or barn building
- recruiting other people to sell soap
All these might be fine, but usually represent minimal fixes at best and extreme energy drainers at worst. We propose a better way, a plan that will unite the school and teacher in a model that has the potential to create a lasting, residual income which gives a teacher the freedom to excel in the Christian school. HOW CAN THIS BE ACCOMPLISHED? If you don't have any official voice or representation on the board of education, how can this idea be presented efficiently and seriously? - form a Faculty Communication Committee and draft a letter or PowerPoint presentation
- Present a formal proposal to the principal and ask him or her to present it. Offer to go with them as a resource person.
- Request a time slot on the board of education agenda
Also, form an in-house consortium of teacher-helping-teacher in the project. Utilize the training and learning aids that are referenced above.
